Dubai: A Dubai dance studio is roping in popular American choreographers to give students a chance to not only meet, greet and learn from them, but also perform to packed audiences along with the stars.
Suresh Kumar, artistic director of Step and Groove, told XPRESS that the Dubai-based dance studio plans to bring the celebrated American stars Phillip ‘Pacman’ Chbeeb and Brian Puspos for a two-day workshop (Dubai Dance Camp) beginning May 26, followed by a public performance (Fusion) with local students on May 28.

A popper with no formal training, Chbeeb came into the spotlight with American televised dance competition show So You Think You Can Dance and America’s Best Dance Crew while YouTube hip hop sensation Puspos shot to fame in America’s Best Dance Crew series.
“Neither ‘Pacman’ nor Puspos need any introduction where dancers are concerned. ‘Pacman’ is known for his liquid popping and tutting while Puspos is famous for his lyrical hip-hop. Students here can now learn these signature moves from them,” said Kumar.
He said the studio was expecting 300 students from all levels to participate in the workshops which will be held at the Grand Excelsior Hotel in Bur Dubai while the public show will take place at the Emirates Theatre.
He said Step and Groove, which offers dance courses certified by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), focuses on teaching students rhythmic knowledge and different styles of dancing, rather than moves tailored to specific songs.
Packages for the two-day dance camp range from Dh350 for one artist to Dh599 for two artists. Tickets for the Fusion show are priced at Dh60 and Dh100.
