ABU DHABI After making rapid strides last season, Abu Dhabi wakeboarding star and Red Bull athlete Omeir Saeed is all set for the big league. He will be up against the best with an eye on the world title when he kicks off his campaign at the first event on March 27-28 at the all-new Aktion Parks facility in the Miami Watersports Complex.

“I wanted to prove myself so that I can earn respect from other riders who are at the top of their game,” said Saeed. “I would go to the cable park every weekend and train for hours to learn new tricks and improve not only through technical tricks but also by improving my style. I also had awesome friends to ride with and they would motivate me further,” he added.

Important event

The tournament is the first contest in the 2015 Pro Cable Wakeboard Season and Saeed said it was very important to put up a good show. “Results achieved in the season opener set the tone for the contests to come.

“For preparing for the event I would go down to the Al Forsan Sports Resort in Abu Dhabi to train. I just want to do the best there because you never know what’s going to happen when you’re going up against the world’s best,” he said.

“During the past month here in the UAE we did not have the best training weather due to the sandstorms, but overall I think I am mentally and physically prepared to do my best and have fun,” he added.

Following the season opener in March, the competition moves on to Velocity Island Park in Woodland, California, on June 5-6, and then finishes at the hugely popular Terminus Wake Park in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 18-19.

Saeed explains, “We are still early on in the 2015 season and competitions mainly take place during the summer, so the dates and location of some events are not announced yet, but my plan is to compete in the other WWA World Series events, and also go to the UK to compete in plastic playgrounds and Red Bull Harbour Reach.”
