The flood that hit Chennai and other parts of south India in 2015 might be in the past, but the spirit of the people that helped in the rescue efforts is not to be forgotten.

Tamil actor Vikram’s musical video, Spirit of Chennai, salutes those who came to the aid of stranded residents during this difficult phase.

Vikram, who directed the video, said that he was inspired by the people of Chennai.

“When I searched for a team to make this dream come true, a thousand kindred souls came together with the same compassion that Chennai exhibited, without a moment’s hesitation,” said Vikram, who shot the video on Elliot’s Beach in Chennai in January this year.

Featuring real heroes as well as on-screen heroes such as Nivin Pauly, Prithviraj, Rana Daggubatti and Abhishek Bachchan, Spirit of Chennai was written by Madan Karky.

C. Girinandh composed the track and several singers, including Aruna Sairam, Shankar Mahadevan, Hariharan and SPB, have lent their voices to the album.

The video concludes with a pertinent question — do we need a Kargil war, a tsunami or an earthquake to bring us together?
