Dubai: Sunday’s seventh leg of the HH Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship IFAHR at Berlin’s Hoppergarten Racecourse looks set to be a rematch between Europe’s top two Arabian-bred horses, Phraseur Kossack and Athlete Del Sol.
Phraseur Kossack will be ridden by the Dutch lady jockey Jadey Pietrasuewicz, a home care nurse who has ridden 84 winners, while Japanese professional Mai Beppu, who has ridden in over 5000 races and won 449, partners Athlete De Sol.
Other riders competing for the €20,000 purse include Oman’s Fatma Al Manji (Vly Kossack), Germany’s Silke Bruggemann (Senna OA), Tunisia’s Gabriella Fricano (Irabella del Sol) and Lara Le Geay (Lillij Ann).
Pietrasuewicz is no stranger to success in series having ridden a winner in Australia two years ago.
“I know he’s a well-bred son of Prince d’Orient and hopefully we will win it together for Holland,” she said.
“He was recently partnered by the French jockey Prod’Home Pauline to win the third round of the HH Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship and made it 2 out of 2 on the St. Moritz White Turf and I think he has every chance to repeat on Sunday.”
Meanwhile, 27-year-old Beppu, was also exuding confidence.
“Hopefully I will emulate Korean lady jockey Keumjoo Lee who rode her first winner on debut at Casablanca last month,” she said.
Beppu said that although she hasn’t seen Athlete Del Sol yet, she is aware of his ability and believes that he can gain revenge for his earlier defeat to Phraseur Kossack.
Hoppergarten Racecourse will host also the fifth round of the €30,000 Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup for which 12 runners have been declared for the ten furlong contest.
Both races are staged as part of the HH Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival which is organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority and coordinated by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in association with Emirates Racing Authority, IFAHR and Emirates Arabian Horse Society.
Noora Al Suwaidi, Director of the General Women’s Union (GWU), said: “We are delighted to see the UAE women achieving this level of success thanks to the encouragement and backing of HH Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the UAE.
“We are truly obliged to the farsighted vision and directives of HH Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs in launching this campaign which is paying dividends and hitting the highest level of success and progress,” she added.
