ABU DHABI: Team Abu Dhabi will be playing catch-up in round two of the current five-stage UIM F1 H2O World Championship in China next Monday after missing the opening round of the series in Qatar in March.

The team will take confidence from past results in China, where Thani Al Qamzi finished second in 2010 and Ahmad Al Hameli first in 2011, but the delay between events and the deficit they need to overturn is of concern.

“It’s been frustrating to have such a large gap in the calendar and no opportunity for F1 racing until now,” said Al Qamzi. “But the team is focused and we have prepared thoroughly for this race. Both Ahmad and myself are excited to get our campaign underway and we are confident that we can achieve a top result in China and set us up nicely for a good run into the end of the season.”

Alex Carella’s victory in Qatar in the absence of Team Abu Dhabi means that the Italian takes a five-point advantage over Frenchman Philippe Chiappe heading into China. Portugal’s Duarte Benavente holds third place and Italian Francesco Cantando is fourth.
