Farhan Akhtar and his Lucknow Central co-stars launched a new song from their upcoming film before 4,000 inmates at the Yerwada Central Jail in Pune on August 15.

Director Ranjit Tiwari said to the crowd: “Nothing could have been more apt than sharing the song with you people because the story of our film revolves around four inmates who have a dream of singing.”

While Akhtar sang live, actors Inaamulhaq and Deepak Dobriyal played body percussion at the event.

Actors Diana Penty, Ronit Roy, Rajesh Sharma and Ravi Kishan and music directors Rochak Kohli and Arjuna Harjai were at the event.

The actors also urged all the inmates to never lose hope and continue dreaming.

Akhtar said: “If you dream and walk towards it, it will come into reality one day. On the other hand, I also think that it is the responsibility of the society to accept you people as a normal citizens and give equal opportunity once you go out of the jail.”

The good mood was infectious; the inmates clapped and cheered the actors on.

One of the inmates sang Chahunga tujhe main sanjh sawere, while a constable sang the patriotic track Ae mere watan ke logon. Finally, Akhtar and Kohli had an impromptu jamming session — they played the popular track Rock On!!

Besides this, Akhtar recited poetry from the film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, and sang Yaari from the film Wazir.

Prison authorities say they will consider arranging a special screening of the film Lucknow Central, which is releasing on September 15.
