This sequel made after ten years comes with expectations and a star cast featuring Prasanna, Bobby Simha and Amala Paul

Susi Ganesan’s 2006 film, Thiruttu Payale, was based on the story of a blackmailer and a married woman caught in a clandestine relationship. It had all the ingredients of an entertainer. Ganesan subsequently remade it in Hindi as Short Cut Romeo in 2013.

The director is back now with a sequel, titled Thiruttu Payale 2. What adds to the expectations is the presence of a formidable cast — Prasanna, Bobby Simha and Amala Paul.

Ganesan reveals little about his film. From the trailers we learn that Simha plays a policeman.

“He is a common man, someone you see passing through a crowd,” said Ganesan of Simha’s character. He declines to elaborate on the characters of Paul and Prasanna.

Praising his team on their good performance, Ganesan credited it to the healthy competition among the three actors.

Prasanna had to work on his physical appeal while Simha’s performance is marked with subtlety. And Paul, around whose character the story is centred, has put in an intense performance.

“It’s a straight film involving a cat-and-mouse game,” said Ganesan.

Making a sequel is tricky, he added. “I had to retain the flavour of the first story while narrating a completely different story. I loved the challenge in making this film,” he explained.

Also, look out for Ganesan in a cameo.

Thiruttu Payale 2 releases in the UAE on November 30.
