Dubai: The ‘Swing Against Cancer’ Golf Series reaches its climax this week with the Mike Clark Golf Day on October 26 at Jumeirah Golf Estates, and there’s still a chance to play during the day or dine at the gala event with celebrity guests.

Legendary football player and manager Harry Redknapp, England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup winner Mike Tindall, winner of the 2005 US Open, Michael Campbell, and now, singer-songwriter and former Westlife star Brian McFadden will all be attending.

They will put their skills to the test before appearing for an evening of food, drinks and entertainment, including dinner and Q&A with the stars, a prize raffle, prize auction, live DJ, and much more.

Campbell, one of the European Tour’s best-loved players who beat Tiger Woods down the stretch at Pinehurst to claim his sensational US Open victory, said: “One of my philosophies in life is, ‘we are born with two hands, one to receive and one to give back’, something that my grandmother taught me when I was young. So, when an opportunity like this comes along it’s nice that in some shape or form I can make a difference.”

Meanwhile former England captain Tindall said: “I’m really looking forward to coming back to the Mike Clark Golf day, it was such a great day last year and it’s there to raise money for a great cause.

“Everyone knows someone who has suffered with cancer so to be able to come out to Dubai, play some golf and raise money for the two patients in need of urgent treatment and directly help save their lives is a no-brainer.”

The Swing Against Cancer Charity Golf Series 2017, launched by Sixteen10 and Worldwide Golf, follows on from the success of the Mike Clark Charity Golf Day, which over four years has raised more than US$125,000 (Dh459,125) for the Friends of Cancer Patients charity (FoCP), and over $50,000 in 2016 alone. Clark, a former UAE resident, golfing enthusiast, and Jumeirah Golf Estates employee, tragically passed away from cancer aged 30 on October 16, 2012 — hence the name Sixteen10 in commemoration of Clark’s untimely passing five years ago.

“The Swing Against Cancer Golf Series is a concept created following the fourth successful year of the Mike Clark Charity Golf Day,” said Reza Sazegar, managing director of Sixteen10.

“Our vision is to unite a community to fight for one common goal; to improve awareness of cancer in the UAE and raise money to help prevent, diagnose, treat and cure patients with cancer and ultimately help eradicate it from society.”

The series has captured the imagination of the region’s golfing and business communities with a large number of players and sponsors getting behind each of the five qualifying events that have taken place at clubs across the UAE leading up to Thursday’s final.

Individual entry for the evening is only Dh395, and a table of 10 just Dh3,500. All day golf and dinner spots can be booked for Dh1,250.
