Solomon Thomas of India will take on Nada Mamdouh of Egypt in the final of the Recurve Open category, while Abdul Aziz Al Rodhan of Saudi Arabia will face Lebanon’s Wissam Torbay for top honours in the Compound Open category at the archery competition of the Fourth Nad Al Sheba (NAS) Ramadan Sports Tournament.

In the Compound Open category semi-final matches held at the Nas Sports Complex late on Sunday, Al Rodhan defeated Maral Chreiki of Syria 148-141, while Torbay beat Amr Ghanem of Egypt 139-137.

In the Recurve Open semi-finals, Thomas got the better of the UAE’s Obaid Al Suwaidi 6-2, while young Mamdouh defeated Portugal’s Santos 6-2 to set up the summit clash. “This is such an exciting moment for me as I make the final of such a big competition,” an excited Mamdouh told Gulf News.

“Now that I have come so far, I hope to keep my nerve and go all the way and win the gold medal. I am excited at just being here and I want to make this experience count,” the youngster added.

The medal contenders in the Recurve Cadets in the boys and girls under-17 were also decided late on Sunday. Noora Haroon will take on Maitha Abdullah in the final of the girls category, while Ghalia Bader will take on Fatima Mohammad for the bronze medal. In the boys section, Mohammad Ateeq will face Ahmad Hamad for the gold medal while Saud Rashid and Ali Ateeq tussle for the third place.

The preliminary rounds of the special needs category were scheduled to be held on Monday followed by the final matches in all five categories on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Fohood Zabeel and MRMR-2 qualified to the volleyball semi-finals from Group A at the end of the preliminary round matches on Sunday. Fohood Zabeel fought back from two sets down for a 3-2 win against MRMR-2 after Quattro Centre had got past Tornado 3-0 in an inconsequential match.

Fohood Zabeel ended their three matches with seven points, one better than MRMR’s six, while Quattro centre ended with five points leaving Tornado with no score at the end of Group A qualifying.

Things are interesting in Group B as well with MRMR-1 and Zabeel tied at the top with four points each followed by Surprise with three points and Al Zaeem with one point. The last round of preliminary round matches were scheduled to be held late on Monday with Zabeel taking on winless Al Zaeem, while MRMR-1 face Surprise.

In the padel competition, the SHM team led by Javier Molina and Omar Al Marzouqi advanced to the semi-finals in the teams competition with a smooth 2-0 win over Marc Ruiviejo Cirera’s Lord Commanders. The SHM team will now await the winners of the last group match between M5 and Abdullah Al Maktoum team.
