Dubai: The UAE’s Omar Behroozian is scheduled to head on Saturday on a six-week tennis holiday to England in an attempt to further consolidate his form during the summer.

Behroozian, who made his Davis Cup debut for the UAE in 1996, has been one of the steady performers in his country’s annual tennis assignments in the Asia/Oceania Zone.

Since making their Davis Cup debut in 1993, the UAE has alternated between Group III and IV with their best form surfacing in 2002 when they finished third in the Asia/Oceania Group III.

However, with Behroozian and Mahmoud Nader Al Beloushi as the two experienced players, the UAE banked on their junior trio of Abdul Rahman Al Janahi, Fahad Al Janahi and Faris Al Janahi to once again earn a promotion into Group III in Amman, last week.

Behroozian now wants to continue with his run of good form that saw him win all seven of his singles and doubles matches in Amman.

“I will be playing in at least four tournaments in London and another one in Newcastle during my six-week stay in England,” Behroozian told Gulf News.

“Playing in England, or anywhere else in Europe poses a completely different challenge. And over the years I have enjoyed this challenge,” he added.

Representing Middlesex, Behroozian has a rating of 1.1 on the LTA British Rankings system. “It’s important that I maintain, if not improve on my rating. In addition, this period will be a great opportunity for me to take some rest away from the summer in the UAE,” Behroozian said.

“Playing in the Gulf is a completely different challenge for me personally. And by going on these trips abroad, I want to challenge myself and see how much I can continue improving so that the UAE benefits in the long run,” he added.
