Dubai: Al Shabab have trained their sights on collecting full points against Hatta in Round 22 of the Arabian Gulf League (AGL) on Friday.

Coach Miroslav Djukic, who took over from Fred Rutten, has seen his side fail to win in their last six matches. But the Serbian is confident his side can turn the tide despite last week’s 2-0 setback in the Arabian Gulf Cup final against Al Ahli.

Foreign players Henrique Luvannor and Tomas Vincenti both got injured during training, and Al Shabab’s next four matches are against top teams — including league leaders Al Jazira and third-placed Al Wasl.

Al Shabab have been struggling in the AGL with just six wins and seven draws for a tally of 25 points and are sitting in eighth place in the 14-team standings. Even more dismal has been the fact that their strikers have generally failed to fire, aggregating 20 goals in 21 matches played so far.

Hatta are in a similar situation with five wins and six draws. They are currently in ninth place with 21 points.

And for good measure, Hatta too have scored just 19 goals while conceding 36 so far, making Friday’s encounter one to watch out for.

Djukic, however, told media on Wednesday: “I don’t like to differentiate between foreign players and the local ones. We have problems in attack and defence. But we are a team and we need to combat this situation together. The good thing is that we are on the right path. I have a very good feeling with the players and I can feel the support of the players, the management and the fans.”

The Serbian added: “It is good to continue on this path for the sake of our future. The players need confidence, something that we do not have at this moment. If we want to play very good football, we need confidence.”

With Hatta closest to the Hawks in the standings, Djukic fancies his team’s chances of bagging all three points. “We are playing at home and we have nothing to lose. There is no pressure on us. This is a tight compact team and I am sure we will score and get the three points, only if each player puts his work on the field for the sake of the team,” Djukic said.

“I am really, really happy here even though we have gone without a win in the last six games that I have been in charge. I can feel the support of the board, of the fans and the players. A win will come and we will get the confidence needed for the remainder of the season,” he said.
