Dubai: Saeed Al Marri and Hassan Sharif Al Marzouqi tasted success with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Abudullah Ahli and Ahmad Hussain and were crowned champions in the UAE Nationals Padel category at the Fourth Nad Al Sheba (NAS) Ramadan Sports Tournament.

After ending fourth in last year’s competition, Al Marri and Al Marzouqi overcame illness and injury to become the new champions at this annual competition. Al Marri had a dizzy spell while Al Marzouqi has been nursing a sore knee for the past few days.

“But this was the final and we had to take up the challenge and win our first title together as a couple,” Al Marzouqi told Gulf News.

“The key to the match was to keep the ball in play and keep the rallies long and finish off the point whenever the opportunity came by,” he added.

Defending champion Mohammad Al Janahi, who had won the title last year with Omar Bahroozian, finished in fourth place after he and Majid Bushagar went down in three sets to Mohammad Al Mansouri and Mohammad Ahli in the third place play-off.
