Sharjah: The Sports Leaders Conference — a convention dedicated to discussing ways in which the status of women’s sports in the UAE can be advanced — will be held at the Sharjah Women Sports Foundation’s (SWSF) gymnasium on Tuesday.

Organised by the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare (GAYSW) and SWSF, the conference will be held in the presence of Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development.

The event is bound to bring together 30 women’s leaders representing various committees from sports associations, who will discuss a number of sport-related topics and explore areas that need to be enhanced in ways that can be beneficial to women in the country.

The event is aimed to highlight the relationship between women’s participation in sports and attracting qualified sportswomen who can contribute significantly to the nation’s local sporting scene through their talent and training. It will also discuss the numerous challenges that face women in sports today.

The recently launched SWSF strives to establish a modern and integrated system to promote women’s sports in Sharjah in accordance with the best international practices. The foundation aims to empower national competencies and develop human capital in the field of women’s sports, nurturing a qualified generation of sportswomen leaderships in collaboration with international sports organisations.

It also continually strives to promote a healthy physical culture by creating an environment conducive to women’s sports and provide high-end services to target categories.

The conference seeks to encourage women’s participation in sports activities, and increase their competitiveness through various development programmes, which SWSF plans to organise in the near future.
