Dubai: The UAE ladies won team gold and dominated the individual titles in the Ladies and Junior GCC Golf Championships in Bahrain recently, while the UAE junior team finished fourth.

The best two scores from three rounds by Rabab Al Haj, Reema Al Heloo and Tara Al Marzouqi gave the UAE ladies a winning score of 559 for their first ever team title.

Al Heloo also won gold in the individual category with a championship total of 280 after rounds of 93, 100 and 87. Al Haj won silver with rounds of 93, 96 and 92 for a total of 281 and Al Marzouqi won bronze with rounds of 99, 98 and 94 for a total of 291.

“I am honoured to be a part of this historic victory,” said UAE National team coach Greg Holmes. “The ladies have worked extremely hard and thoroughly deserve the gold, as well as the clean sweep in the individual category. I hope that this is a reflection and a catalyst for the growth in talent for the ladies’ game. We are looking forward to many more successful outings.”

Elsewhere, the UAE junior team finished fourth with a total of 444 points. Bahrain won with a score of 506, followed by Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Leading the way for the UAE and finishing seventh in the individual standings was Rashid Al Emadi, who had rounds of 91, 96 and 98 for a total 285. Obaid Al Heloo finished ninth with 98, 96, 112 for a total 306, while Khalid Al Mutawa finished 11th with rounds of 118, 108, 112 for 328.
