Dubai: Teams from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) continued their winning run in the volleyball competition as the fourth Shaikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament continued through the week.

RTA, who had won in straight sets against Dubai Municipality on the opening day on Tuesday, registered another 3-0 win against Dubai Ambulance to come forward as one of the early favourites for the title. After opening with a 3-1 win against Public Prosecution, the team from Dewa continued their chase against RTA as they stood second in the overall standings with a 3-0 win against Dubai Municipality.

RTA and Dewa were scheduled to play their all-important tie later on Thursday, with the winner guaranteed a spot at the top of the standings.

Meanwhile in the basketball tournament, Dubai Public Prosecution became the only unbeaten team in the tournament so far with their second win on the trot. Public Prosecution, who started off with a 48-15 result against RTA, this time hammered the Supreme Committee for Legislation (SCL) 61-2 to hand them a second defeat in this competition.

The badminton competition also got under way at the Dubai World Trade Centre late on Wednesday with ten group of three players each playing each other on a round-robin basis to decide the group winners who will then be assured of advancing to the knock-out stages. The competition has attracted a total of 60 players.

The preliminary rounds of the volleyball, basketball, handball and badminton competitions will continue at the DWTC till Friday. The semi-finals will be played on Saturday and all competitions will conclude with the finals of the team sports on Sunday.

Organised by the Women and Sports Committee of the DSC under the patronage of Her Highness Shaikha Hind Bint Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, Wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, this year’s tournament has an increased prize fund of Dh600,000 in nine sports disciplines.
