The Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) has announced that its 14km duathlon is now open for registration.

Scheduled to take place from 6.30am on November 11 at Al Qasimia University in Sharjah, the race is expected to witness a huge number of participants in view of the great success it achieved last year.

The Sharjah Ladies Duathlon is open to women and girls who are at least 15 years old and residents in the UAE, with contestants able to take up the challenge individually or as part of a team. All nationalities are welcome to participate in the race, which comprises a 2.5km run, followed by a 9km cycle race and finally a second 2.5km run.

“We are delighted to host this unique athletic event, which is established as a fun sporting and health platform for ladies and girls in the UAE. One of our goals as a community organisation for ladies is to shed light on the importance of sport for women and to assist those bodies that strive to promote and support such activities in Sharjah and the UAE,” said Khawla Al Serkal, Director General, SLC.

“We call for all ladies and girls to participate in the duathlon, which is a fun, challenging and rewarding activity. The race is a great opportunity to enjoy a competitive environment, but it is also important to note that participants are welcome to take part at their own pace if they wish and push themselves just as much as they are comfortable with. Whatever the level of exertion, we can assure that all competitors will have a thoroughly good time,” Al Serkal added.

The SLC will provide participants with all necessary sports equipment to compete in the event. The first place winner in the individual category will receive a cash prize of Dh7,000, second place Dh6,000 and third place Dh5,000, while in the team category, the cash prize for the first place is Dh9,000, second place Dh8,000 and third place Dh6,000.

Registration for the event can be done online at www.slc.ae or 06-5067701.
