Dubai: Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp, New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell and ex-England rugby captain Mike Tindall will play in the Swing Against Cancer Charity Golf Series finale at Jumeirah Golf Estates on October 26.

The event, organised by Sixteen10 and Worldwide Golf, will raise funds for the Friends of Cancer Patients Society (FoCP), directly helping towards the treatment of two UAE residents, Waleed, a 37-year-old man suffering from rectal cancer, and a 2-year-old boy suffering from leukaemia.

Since inception FoCP have delivered moral and financial support to over 1,300 UAE cancer patients and their families.

In aid of this great cause, Redknapp, who won the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008, Tindall, who was part of England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup win, and Campbell, who the US Open in 2005, will play in the event and take part in a post round gala dinner, involving an auction, raffle, and question and answer sessions with the sporting celebrities.

Campbell said: “One of my philosophies in life is, ‘we are born with two hands, one to receive and one to give back’, something that my grandmother taught me when I was young. So, when an opportunity like this comes along it’s nice that in some shape or form I can make a difference.”

The Swing Against Cancer Charity Golf Series 2017, launched by Sixteen10 and Worldwide Golf, follows on from the success of the Mike Clark Charity Golf Day, which over four years has raised more than US$125,000 (Dh459,126) for the FoCP society, and over $50,000 in 2016 alone.

Clark, a former UAE resident, golfing enthusiast, and Jumeirah Golf Estates employee, tragically passed away from cancer aged 30 on October 16, 2012 — hence the name Sixteen10.

Swing Against Cancer 2017 hopes to build upon this success and will take place on October 26, on the Fire Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates. Pros and amateurs will battle it out with celebrities for two grand prizes, while the evening’s entertainment will raise further funds for the FoCP.

“Our vision is to unite a community to fight for one common goal; to improve awareness of cancer in the UAE and raise money to help prevent, diagnose, treat and cure patients with cancer and ultimately help eradicate it from society,” said Reza Sazegar, managing director of Sixteen10.

“We’re delighted with how well series has gone so far, it really seems to have captured the imagination of the region’s golfers.”

Individual tickets for the evening event cost Dh395, and a table for 10 costs Dh3,500. Tickets can be reserved by calling +971 56 442 1067 or by emailing info@sixteen-10.com.
