Dubai: Miles Tunnicliff, a double winner on the European Tour, has signed up for the forthcoming Dubai Creek Open, round three of the current ten-stage Mena Golf Tour season to be held from September 13-16.

The 47-year-old Englishman will join a growing army of emerging players as he attempts to rediscover form shown during his 2002 Great North Open and 2004 Diageo Championship wins.

Tunnicliff follows in the footsteps of former European Tour players like Wales’ Stephen Dodd and England’s Ross McGowan, who have taken the Mena Tour route to get back to winning ways.

The top three professionals and leading amateur on tour will receive special invites to compete in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and Hassan II Trophy, as well as an exemption for Asian Tour qualifying school.

Tunnicliff is no stranger to the Omega Dubai Desert Classic having made ten appearances since turning professional with a tied for 33rd in 2008 being his highest finish in the tournament. “It’s great see European Tour stalwarts like Miles and others support the tour and take the level of competition to a new high,” said Mena Tour chairman Mohammad Juma Bu Amim.

“Their presence in the field will motivate emerging players, especially from the region, to step up and be counted. Which is what we want to see.

“I know invitations to play in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the Hassan II Trophy are one of the biggest incentives for players, especially for the experienced, for joining the tour, and if we can have other European Tour events in the region offering similar spots, it will further add to the excitement,” he added.
