Shaikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) has endorsed the 24–hour walkathon to be held on November 17-18.

The walk activity programme, to be organised by the Dubai Sports Council, is part of the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Sports Community Initiative that was launched earlier this month by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee (UAE NOC).

Shaikh Mansour visited the DIMC earlier this week along with Mattar Al Tayer, Vice-Chairman, DSC and Saeed Hareb, General Secretary, to take stock of preparations for the initiative. The walkathon initiative comes from Shaikh Mansour to get various strata of society lead a healthy lifestyle while enjoying benefits of productive living.

This is the first time-ever that a 24-hour walkathon is being launched in Dubai, with the starting point at Zabeel Park, Karama before passing through all major landmarks of Dubai including parks, beaches and walking tracks covering a distance of 90km.

Shaikh Mansour later visited the DSC premises in Design District to acquaint himself with the route of the walkathon. He also visited the Physical Fitness hall housed at the DSC in coordination with Adidas. Members of the general public can visit the fitness facility any time for consultative services, advice and free medical tests.

According to the tentative programme ratified by Shaikh Mansour, the walkathon will commence early on November 17 and end the following morning with a special 100m run for people above 70 years. There will also be a 3.5km walk on November 18 to mark World Diabetes Day.

Participants are free to join the walkathon as per their comfort levels, be it over 15km, 30km, 45km, 60km, 75km or the entire 90km. Special tents will be located at earmarked rest zones to provide medical support and massage services doing the longer walks.
