Dubai: Marlu Gamboa from Du and Dubai Public Prosecution hogged the limelight in the individual and teams categories of the bowling competition at the Fifth Shaikha Hind Women’s Sports that got under way at the Dubai International Bowling Centre, late on Thursday.

Gamboa won the individual competition with games of 134, 120 and 149 for a total of 403 points, well ahead of second-placed Joylyn Miro’s total of 371 from the Dubai Women’s Establishment and Dubai Public Prosecution’s Jawaher Obaid Abdul Salam’s 368.

Fatima Shamsan and Liela Liano were tied in fourth place with an identical total of 367.

In the teams’ competition, the Dubai Public Prosecution squad of Jawaher Obaid Abdul Salam, Alae Bassam, Aziza Mohammad, Maitha Abu Shukri and Aisha Mohammad Khamis proved their mettle from Lane 13 while taking the crown.

The five-member squad had a cumulative score of 1,510 points, that was just shy of nine pin-falls from second-placed Dubai Police (1,501) represented by Ameena Ali, Leena Mohammad, Sahaima Mohammad, Fatima Shamsan and Mariam Saeed.

Dubai Municipality clinched the third spot with a total of 1,462 points leaving the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) in fourth with a total of 1,448.

Held under the patronage of Shaikha Hind Bint Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, the Wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the annual tournament is organised by the Women’s Sports Committee of Dubai Sports Council.

This year’s event that has 10 different sporting disciplines has attracted a total of 685 athletes from 32 entities. Action will continue daily with the finals being held on November 24-25.
