Dubai: Rashid Al Dhaheri won the cadet class (for 8-12-year-olds) of the first IAME X30 UAE Championship race at Dubai Kartdrome on Friday.

The Emirati youngster covered 200-km in testing and qualified in second. In heat one he took the lead and crossed the line 7.3 seconds ahead of the next-placed karter, setting the fastest lap along the way. He did the same in the pre-final and final, setting the fastest laps in both races and finishing 5.5 seconds ahead of his nearest rival in the final.

Team manager Fausto Ippoliti from Italy said: “It was not an easy race day for Rashid, who was the youngest driver in the field and even though he started on the outside in heat one, he put in an almost flawless performance, taking an early lead and staying there until the end.

“The rest of the day was a great racing experience for Rashid in terms of race management, staying focused and maintaining a good gap over his rivals while taking care of his engine at the same time. He ticked all the boxes from lap one to the chequered flag, it was great racing.”
