Al Ain: Shaikh Saeed bin Tahnoun bin Mohammad Al Nahyan has inaugurated Al Jimi Mall Sports Fest, Al Ain’s first ever inter-school sports tournament, held in collaboration with United Sports Services at Al Jimi Mall.

The month-long tournament, also dubbed the ‘Mini-Olympics’, brings together under-15 teams from as many as 12 Al Ain schools to participate in popular sports — including football, basketball, giant chess, volleyball and table tennis.

Participating schools include: Al Ain Academy, United Sports Academy, Al Dhafra Private School, Al Khalil International School, Al Ittihad National Private School, Al Nashaa Al Saleh Private School, Alya Private School, Emirates Private School, Al Snawber School, Future Private School, International Private School and Future School.

Al Jimi Mall Sports Fest aims at engaging the community through various forms of sports, while promoting and nurturing young sports talent in the region.

The sports festival is being held with support from key retailers, which include; Louzan Group, Cavallo, High Lady and Red Tag as platinum sponsors — and Ford, Hilton Hotel, Magic Planet and Socks Collection as silver sponsors.

Matches will take place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until November 11, from 5pm to 8pm, at a sports arena that has been set up right outside the mall’s east entrance. An awards ceremony will be held on November 11 ahead of the UAE National Sports Day. The winning team and runners-up will be rewarded with cash prizes while visitors can also take part in a quiz competition.

Al Jimi Mall is currently undergoing a Dh410 million expansion and renovation project.
