Dubai: Rains have been forecast on the Dubai World Cup day on Saturday, but the Executive Director of Racing at the Dubai Racing Club (DRC) has shrugged off the possibility of inclement weather being a spoilsport at this weekend’s 22nd running of the Dubai World Cup.

Frank Gabriel Junior said he is unfazed with the predicted weather conditions over the race weekend. “Honestly, very few things have been affected due to the weather conditions. For one, we have had to make a few adjustments as far as the actual outdoor preparations go. But in general, hardly anything changes for us as everything else is on schedule,” Gabriel Jr told Gulf News.

“Weather is weather and there is very little we can do to alter it or change conditions. So we’ve got to make the necessary adjustments and work around to have a memorable day of racing,” he added.

The Met office in the UAE has predicted rains and thunderstorms over the next few days. “There are six different weather reports over one hour in a place like this where conditions keep on changing,” Gabriel noted.

“They have predicted rains on Friday and scattered rain on Saturday morning as well. Hopefully, the sun will be out after the rains and everything will be fine,” he added.

A forecaster from NCMS (National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology) said: “On Saturday, we expect some cloud formation with chance of rain along the coast, that includes Dubai. The winds will be fresh to strong over the sea that could affect the Dubai coast becoming fresh to strong north-easterly by morning time and will continue for the whole day. Over land, residents may experience moderate winds.”
