Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Monday ordered that an open National Sports Day be organised across the country to coincide with the UAE National Day on December 2.
This was announced when Shaikh Mohammad received Emirati sports leaders and senior sports journalists on the occasion of Ramadan, the official news agency WAM reported.
Members of the National Olympic Committee, chairman and members of the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare, chairmen and deputy chairmen of sports associations and clubs were present.
Shaikh Mohammad stressed the importance of sports in man’s life and the need to promote the culture of exercise and sports activities among youth.
“A healthy body is the source of human happiness, where a person cannot be happy if he is unwell,” he said.
He urged officials in charge of youth and sports sectors to encourage all community segments to lead a healthy lifestyle by exercising daily.
Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, also attended.
