Dubai: Shabab Al Ahli Dubai coach Cosmin Olaroiu has refuted rumours that he has been approached by the UAE to take over the national team following the departure of Edgardo Bauza.
Last week, the former Argentinian coach suddenly terminated his contract with the UAE Football Association (UAE FA) and took over the reins with Saudi Arabia, who have already qualified for the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.
Since then, Romanian Olaroiu’s name has been making the rounds. “Till now I don’t have any offer from the UAE FA and honestly, I don’t know if they will either contact me or choose me as the new coach. If they wanted me, then they would have done so a few months back when the vacancy had first come,” Olaroiu told media.
“I am totally focused on Shabab Al Ahli Dubai right now. I do have an offer from a national team, but I cannot name it,” he added.
“Maybe, it’s Honolulu,” he said in zest when pressed further.
