Dubai: It has been a gruelling three weeks for Mohammad Obaid Ali. But three trophies in as many weeks since the start of Ramadan is what Ali can proudly brag about and display in his living room.

Ali’s winning run started off earlier this week as The Embrator won the top honours at the Second Sharjah Ramadan Football Championship organised by Sharjah Sports Channel. The final was held last Monday (June 12) and Ali’s Al Embrator were convincing crowned champions after securing a convincing 4-1 win over Al Jawareh in the final.

Then on Wednesday, Ali scored one goal as his Khamis Al Mazeina team secured a hard-fought 2-1 win against Bin Darwish to win the Seventh Maktoum Bin Rashid Football Championship played at the Dubai Police Officers Club. The final, however, was clashing with the semi-final of the NAS event, so Ali beat a hasty retreat from the Dubai Police Officers Club after playing just one half while scoring one of two goals in the Khamis Al Mazeina Team’s 2-1 victory over Bin Darwish.

Tired, but filled with enthusiasm, half an hour later Ali scored once in Al Taher’s exciting 8-7 semi-final win against Al Wasl at the NAS futsal competition. And the final success in three weeks came late on Friday as Al Taher were crowned the new futsal champions at the Fifth NAS Ramadan Sports Tournament. Ali ended up as the top-scorer among UAE national players with five goals against his name.

“This entire football schedule has been tough to manage. This has been made even more difficult due to the fasting. But all this has been suitably repaid for with three trophies at the end of three weeks,” Ali told Gulf News at the NAS Sports Complex.

“Tonight this third trophy will be on the living room counter. Come home and we can have our own little celebration,” he added.
