Dubai: UAE striker Ahmad Khalil’s six month loan move to Al Ain from Al Jazira fell through late on Monday.

Both clubs and the player had reportedly agreed to the move but the deal wasn’t registered in time for the closing of the UAE transfer window.

Some reports state the player refused to sign, but this is unlikely as Khalil had only played 27 minutes for Al Jazira since joining on a free transfer from Al Ahli last summer, and was desperate to go.

Injuries and a contractual dispute have ruined his spell in the capital and a switch to Al Ain would have been an opportunity for all parties to move forward.

It remains to be seen what happens now with the deal, which was billed as the biggest of the UAE winter transfer window.

Much discussion is set to centre around why the UAE Football Association refused to register the deal and whether both sides had actually completed the paperwork in time.

For the meantime Khalil remains an Al Jazira player and must now reintegrate himself back into the squad with the view to breaking into the first team.
