Dubai: Former England Test star Owais Shah has been appointed a short-term coaching consultant by the Emirates Cricket Board.

A stylish batsman, who has played for England in all three formats of the game. and also for Kochi Tuskers in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Shah brings with him a wealth of experience.

Shah’s task is to oversee the UAE team’s training for the two-day match against West Indies on October 3 and 4, at the ICC Academy ground.

He will return to England on October 10.

Announcing the decision, Waleed Bukhatir, the chief selector and Emirates Cricket Board member, said, “Owais worked with the senior Men’s players in Hampshire, ahead of their Scotland campaign, and has built a strong understanding of their current playing abilities. We are confident this interim appointment will enable him to continue the work he began, ensuring their programme continues uninterrupted.”

Shah will be assisted by the current Emirates Cricket Board support staff during this period.

The UAE team had produced a spirited display against West Indies in a Twenty20 warm-up match at the ICC Academy on September 20 which the visitors won by 22 runs.

Meanwhile, UAE Under-19 team, currently playing in the World Cup qualifiers in Kuala Lumpur, defeated Kuwait by nine wickets.

Kuwait were bowled out for mere 48 runs with Yodhin Punja and Ethisham Saddique taking three wickets each and backed by Aryan Lakra with two wickets.

The UAE won the match in nine overs.
