Dubai: The UAE team stayed on course to progress in the Davis Cup after making it two wins out of two in Pool A of the Asia/Oceania Zone on Wednesday when they beat Bahrain 3-0.

They will next take on winless Iraq and then face Pool A leaders Turkmenistan in their final encounter to decide the winner of the group.

If they defeat Turkmenistan, they would be promoted to Group III of the Asia/Oceana Zone along with the winners of Pool B, which features Myanmar, Cambodia, Qatar, Jordan and Singapore.

In their comfortable victory over Bahrain in Doha, Hamad Abbas Al Janahi secured his first singles win of the week with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Yousuf Qaed, while the experienced Omar Behroozian was equally emphatic in his 6-2, 6-2 win over Hassan Abdul Nabi.

In the dead-rubber doubles, Behroozian and Al Janahi teamed up to edge past Qaed and Abdullah Mohammad 6-4, 6-4.

This was the second win for the UAE following their 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia on the opening day of the group.

The Saudis' defeat was their second on the trot after Turkmenistan narrowly overcame them 2-1.
