Abu Dhabi: Maha Williams and Khuloud Al Mehairbi took the Shaikh Mohammad Bin Saeed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Tennis Tournament with an epic final victory this week.

The pair won the championship title after an impressive 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win against Shaikha Shaikha Bint Mohammad Bin Khalid Al Nahyan and Shaikha Fatima Bint Tahnoun Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The annual event was hosted at the palace of Shaikh Mohammad Bin Khalid Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi and saw 20 Emirati female tennis players in action over two weeks.

The tournament, played under the patronage of Shaikha Miriam Bint Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was founded by Shaikha Shaikha Bint Mohammad Bin Khalid Al Nahyan in 2009 and has grown in size and popularity each year. It is run in association with the national governing body for tennis and has the support of Tennis Emirates.

“We are delighted to announce that Hawk-Eye has once again officiated at the event. We are honoured that we had the same system as used at Wimbledon, the US Open, Australian Open and all major tennis events worldwide,” said Shaikha Shaikha Bint Mohammad Bin Khalid Al Nahyan.

The sponsors for the 2014 event included Head International and Coca-Cola.
