Dubai: The current world number one women's player has no worries about surrendering her top ranking to Belgian Kim Clijsters this week.

"I've had a fantastic 2010 and won more matches and more tournaments than anyone else on the circuit. So the results speak for themselves and I deserve to be where I am as the world's best player," Caroline Wozniacki told Gulf News as she prepared for this week's Dubai Duty Free Women's Open that starts here on Monday.

There is likelihood that Wozniacki may lose her top ranking to Clijsters should the Australian Open champion defeat Jelena Dokic in the semi-finals of the Open GDF Suez that was being played in Paris last night.

‘Do it right'

"What I know is that I deserve to be the world number one at the moment just because the results say so much. And it's not my worry what everyone else does because they are also in the race to be the world's best," Wozniacki said.

"No, I really don't worry about all these things. I just think of what I have to do and I want to do it right," she added.

The Danish tennis player, voted WTA's Newcomer of the Year in 2008, was also at ease with the fact that she occupies the top ranking in the world without even winning a single Grand Slam so far.

She knows she has the game to win a big event, but she is also aware that it is the smaller things that make the difference.

"I think what is missing each time is a bit of luck and a bit of experience. It's no big secret that one has to play well and consistent for seven straight matches in a row to win a Slam. And from experience I know that this is not at all easy," Wozniacki said.

However, the 20-year-old is confident she can be at her very best going into the new season. "I won seven tournaments last year and this year too the focus will be to win as many as possible. The idea will once again be to do well at every tournament I play, so we can only wait and see what the results will be," Wozniacki said.

Success

The player has not made any serious alterations in her annual schedule either in search of that something extra to try and win her maiden Grand Slam.

"But the idea is to just continue doing what I am doing and the success, be it a Grand Slam or the world number one will happen when it has to."
