Serena Williams clinched her ninth grand slam title on Sunday, beating Serb Jelena Jankovic in the US Open women's final.

New York: Serena Williams clinched her ninth grand slam title on Sunday, beating Serb Jelena Jankovic in the US Open women's final.

The American powered through the match, beating Jankovic in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 in a grueling two hours and four minutes.

This is the 26-year-old's third US Open win.

She now regains top spot in the world rankings to be released on Monday.
