Toronto: The Indo-Swiss pairing of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis suffered a straight sets loss and were ousted from the women’s doubles semi-finals of the Rogers Cup in Toronto on Saturday.

French-Slovenian fourth seeds Caroline Garcia and Katarina Srebotnik upset the top seeds 6-3, 6-2 in exactly an hour to take a 2-1 lead in career meetings over the reigning Wimbledon champions.

Playing on the outdoor hard courts of the Aviva Centre, Mirza and Hingis were completely outplayed.

They did not start well as they served two double faults in the first set. Though they won a break point, Mirza and Hingis missed out on three more chances that could have put the set in their favour.

On the contrary, Garcia and Srebotnik converted both the break point opportunities they got to clinch the first set.

Two more double faults in the second set really put the top seeds in the back seat. They again won a break point, but the fourth seeds clinched two more to easily pocket the set and enter the final.
