Dubai: The American pair of Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears will meet Alla Kudryavtseva and Anastasia Rodionova in the doubles final of the Dubai Duty Free Women’s Open on Saturday.
Kops-Jones and Spears took just 55 minutes to dispose of Flavia Pennetta and Samantha Stosur 6-3, 6-2 to set up a final meeting at 5 pm on Saturday.
The Americans showed more purpose in their approach and were instantly rewarded with a break in-between held serves for a 3-0 lead. Kudryavtseva and Rodionova fought back for a break to draw near at 3-4 but the American duo broke again and Spears then served out the set 6-3.
The second set was more defining with Kops-Jones and Spears breaking in the first and seventh to finish it off in 55 minutes to ease into their first final of the season.
“We’ve had some fun playing together and it will be an interesting final as they [Kudryavtseva and Rodionova] have been playing together for some time now. We have played them a couple of times last year and it has been tough on both occasions,” Kops-Jones said.
