Dubai: Samantha Stosur and Yanina Wickmayer were among the two additions of seeds departing Monday from the 2010 Barclays Dubai Tennis Championship being played at the Dubai Tennis Championship.

The ninth-seeded Australian Stosur went down in three sets 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 against this year's oldest player Tathiana Garbin from Italy before the 13th-seeded Wickmayer succumbed to Shahar Peer 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Stosur's countrywoman and qualifier Alicia Molik had caused the first upset of the tournament late on Sunday after dispatching the 16th-seeded Jie Zheng of China 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Strong fightback

Zheng, who made history last month after joining fellow Chinese Li Na in a Grand Slam semifinals at the Australian Open, fought her way back after being down by a set.

But the Australian looked too focused as she set up a meeting against another qualifier, Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany.

Also winning on the second day here was the petite Dominika Cibulkova, who overcame Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-4, 6-4 to set up a meeting with top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki in today's second round encounter.

Big clash

Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania will meet Marion Bartoli, after the Frenchwoman came out a late night winner against qualifier Ekaterina Makarova 6-2, 6-0.

Aravane Rezai, another Frenchwoman, but with Arab roots, won in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 against Austria's Sybille Bammer to earn the right to meet the sixth-seeded Jelena Jankovic in the second round, while the Arab world's only hope Selima Sfar of Tunisia caved in 6-2, 6-2 against last year's finalist Virginie Razzano.

Vera Zvonareva kept her best for the end to carve out a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win against fellow Russian Elena Vesnina to set a meeting against Belgian journeywoman Kirsten Flipkens.
