Filenkov enters semifinals

Filenkov secured an easy 6-4, 6-4 win over Belgium's Guido Van Rompaey to become the first player to reach the last-four stage of the competition.

Dubai: Top seed Alexei Filenkov will meet fourth seed Troy Gillham in the singles semifinals of the 5th Zayed Cup being held at the Le Meridien Al Aqah in Fujairah.

Filenkov secured an easy 6-4, 6-4 win over Belgium's Guido Van Rompaey to become the first player to reach the last-four stage of the competition.

Gillham, on the other hand, defeated UAE youngster Hamad Abbas Al Janahi 6-2, 6-3 to set a meeting against the top seeded Russian. In the lower half of the draw, second seeded Karim Alayli of Morocco powered his way to a 6-0, 6-3 win against UAE junior Faisal Bastaki.

Alayli will meet Ilec Tabura of the Philippines following Tabura's 6-3, 6-1 win over Stefan Muller of the Netherlands.

Tabura has had a stunning run in this tournament after starting off with a shock 6-4, 6-1 win over third seed Gregory Howe of Great Britain in the first round.

He will now meet Alayli in the semifinals.
