Dubai: Namrata Dutta will meet Simran Kaur in the girls under-14 singles final of the 23rd Bank of Sharjah Marbella Junior Tennis Development Circuit being held in Sharjah.

In Thursday's semi-finals, Dutta was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over fifth seed Linda Burt, while Kaur had to work harder for a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win against Teodora Sabljarovic.

The final was scheduled to be held along with other junior age categories in Sharjah today.

Meanwhile, the Bank of Sharjah Junior Circuit also got under way with the boys and girls under-16 competitions and boys under-18s at the Holiday International and Marbella tennis courts on Thursday.

First upset

In the boys under-16, fourth-seeded Brent Dixon got the better of Abdullah Khair 6-7, 6-1, 11-9, while fifth seed Vijay Gupta got the better of Navesh Alexander 6-2, 6-0 and Shokruh Ergashev caused the first upset when he sent sixth seed Adham Gabr packing 6-0, 6-4.

In the boys under-18, Mishaal Choudhury eased past eighth-seeded Vivian Britto 6-2, 6-0 to set up a second round face-off against top seed Kirk Rebuyas. Fifth seed Abdul Razak Ebrahim was another seed to fall when he caved in 5-7, 6-3, 5-7 against Pradeep Ravishankar.

Palash Mishra also advanced to the second round of the competition with a 6-0, 6-1 thrashing of Raymond Lucas. The girls under-16, top seed Victoria Holjevac eased into the second round with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Simran Noronha, while Nancy Fawzy blanked Shweta Shivakumar 6-0, 6-0 to make the next stage.
