Dubai: India's Mahesh Bhupathi has tied up with the Tennis Training Centre in Mirdiff to launch the Mahesh Bhupathi Tennis Academy (MBTA).

The opening of the academy was held in Mirdifff on Friday with as many as 40 children attending along with their parents.

Projects

The initiative for the joint venture came from Mohammad Al Merri, general secretary of Tennis Emirates in an attempt to develop promising talent in the country. The academy will be headed by PTR professional Anil Mathew along with a team of qualified professionals.

Bhupathi was joined by Gaurav Natekar, vice president of MBTA at the opening clinic on Friday.

The academy is the first one to be set up outside India and the ninth one on the MBTA roll. Bhupathi is associated with many ambitious projects in India including the latest one to develop an Indian Grand Slam champion by 2018.

As per the agreement, MBTA will bring in coaches to conduct periodic coaching camps here, while Bhupathi will visit the academy regularly to conduct one-off clinics.

The top junior players will get an opportunity to train at MBTA academies in India for two weeks every year free of cost.
