*David Haggerty is an American tennis administrator who was elected president of the International Tennis Federation in September 2015.

*Europe is the traditional ITF stronghold, but the two European candidates — Rene Stammbach, President of the Swiss Tennis Association and Juan Margets, a Spaniard who was executive vice-president of the ITF — split the European support and were eliminated on the first ballot.

*Haggerty is the fourth American president of the ITF, but the first since Walter Elcock, who served from 1974 to 1975.

*Haggerty is the only American to head an Olympic international federation in a summer or winter sport. A resident of Pennington, New Jersey, Haggerty is now based at the ITF office in London.

*A former college player who attended George Washington University on a tennis scholarship, Haggerty later was chairman of Head USA, after working as a senior executive at Prince and Dunlop.
