Abu Dhabi to host ladies’ tennis meet
Proceeds from 16-participant tournament will go to charity
Aiming to promote women’s tennis in the UAE and support the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, the tournament is organised by ladies’ tennis group, ACE IT and the proceeds raised will be donated to the local charity.
“With the lack of tennis courts for ladies in Abu Dhabi, a friendly tournament like this can give the players a chance to meet, compete and have some fun. One day, I hope to see professional Emirati players competing in Grand Slams,” Aisha Al Fahim, one of the founding members of ACE IT, said.
Other founding members include Lady Elizabeth Riesenburg and Shaikha Al Za’abi who said the tournament is meant to provide women with an opportunity to take to the courts in a friendly and secure environment.
“We hope that our tournament will serve as a stepping stone to many more tennis projects in the UAE,” Lady Elizabeth said.
“We are also pleased to hold the event in support of a very worthy charitable cause; the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children.”
