Dubai: With a year to go before kick-off, Dubai is on schedule to host what will be the 'biggest' rugby World Cup Sevens till date.

The event will be staged from March 5-7, 2009 at Emirates airline's new rugby complex, which is fast taking shape in Dubai.

Rugby World Cup Limited marked one year to go until Rugby World Cup Sevens 2009 in Dubai by recently announcing the appointment of Emirates airline as the tournament's principal partner.

The Dubai-based airline will head the inventory of six official partners for the event.

"Rugby World Cup Limited is delighted that Emirates airline will be the principal partner of rugby World Cup Sevens 2009. Emirates has been a committed supporter of Rugby Sevens for many years and has a long-standing association with world-class sporting events," said International Rugby Board chairman Bernard Lapasset.

Massive success

"Following the massive success of Rugby World Cup 2007, the rugby community now eagerly await the start of RWC Sevens. With a year to go until kick-off of the opening match, operational planning is on track and the IRB is confident that RWC Sevens 2009 will set a new benchmark in terms of profile and global television audiences.
