They may have fallen just short of their main objective of finishing in the top four, but the Asian Women's Rugby 7s held in Thailand still proved to be a successful outing for the Arabian Gulf women's team.

After bowing out of the main competition following a 5-0 quarter- final defeat to Uzbekistan, the Arabian Gulf ladies bounced back to win the Plate with wins over Hong Kong and Guam.

“For us this was an important international experience to prove to everyone we are the up and coming team to watch,'' said captain Jennifer Thompson, whose last-minute try gave her side victory over Guam in the final.

“We proved in this tournament that our team has evolved into a true 7s international team.''
