Dubai: UAE rugby referee Steve Scott has been selected by the IRB (International Rugby Board) to contribute to the upcoming Rugby World Cup Sevens 2013 disciplinary team as a citing commissioner.

Scott, a captain with Emirates airlines’ B777 fleet for the past 15 years, has a strong rugby background both as a player and, more recently as a referee officiating games on behalf of the IRB, Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) and the UAE Rugby Federation (UAERF) in various countries and tournaments. Scott is also a recognised IRB referee trainer.

Attracting professional teams from all corners of the world the men’s 2013 tournament in Russia from June 28th to 30th will see the top 24 teams compete for the Melrose Cup, where the women’s tournament hosts 16 teams competing for the Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy.

“This tournament is the marquee event of Sevens rugby worldwide and we are extremely proud that a representative from the UAE has been selected for the 2013 disciplinary team”, said UAERF chairman Mohammad Falaknaz. “This is a great honour for Steve and one that reflects highly on his professional skills, work ethic and integrity. The board wishes him a successful, memorable experience,” he added.
