The Hilton Beach Club in Ras Al Khaimah will once again be the setting for the annual beach touch rugby tournament organised by the RAK Goats Rugby Club on May 7.

The tournament has emerged as one of the social highlights on the UAE rugby calendar, bringing together players and enthusiasts from across the country to the shores of the Northern Emirates.

Last year's inaugural event attracted 25 teams, with each team comprising five players and three reserves.

Bonus points are given to teams fielding two or more women, players under-16, or players over 50 years of age.

Matches last five minutes each way and are played on the beach in the spectacular setting of the Hilton Beach Club.

Craig Smailes of the RAK Goats, said: "Following the success of last year's tournament, we are looking forward to welcoming rugby enthusiasts of all shapes and sizes back to Ras Al Khaimah for this year's social competition. It is touch rugby, so the emphasis is very much on skill, rather than brawn, which enables people of all ages to compete against each other."

The tournament begins at 10am and is due to finish after the finals of the Cup, Plate and Bowl competitions around 6pm.

"This year we have decided to limit the number of teams to 20 so we have four groups of five teams," Smailes added. "A number of teams have already registered, but it is not too late for others who wish to take part."
