London: Former Australia lock Mark Chisholm has joined Munster from French side Bayonne on a two-year contract, the Irish province announced on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old made 58 appearances for Australia between 2004 and 2010 and previously played for Canberra-based Super Rugby side the Brumbies.
His move to Munster is subject to the awarding of a work permit and the completion of fitness tests.
“We are delighted to have secured the services of Mark,” Munster chief executive Garrett Fitzgerald said in a statement.
“His skills as a player have been showcased for many seasons across a number of different environments at both club and international level.
“Known for his athleticism and physicality, he will be a huge addition to the side with his abilities as a leader also proven.”
Chisholm was Bayonne’s captain last season but asked the Basque club to release him following their relegation to the second division in France.
He was Bayonne’s highest earner and had been with the club since 2011, having won the Super Rugby competition with the Brumbies in his breakthrough season of 2004.
