The beaten cup finalists last season and near unbeatable for two years prior to that have not recorded a win so far this season from five starts and must be wondering when their luck will change. In their second match of the season versus Exiles, they held a handy lead before allowing a late score which resulted in their old nemesis stealing a late one-point victory.

Lead conceded

In recent weeks they also came tantalisingly close to beating the high-flying Dubai Dragons only to concede the lead with a win in sight and on Thursday night, versus an improving Dubai Exiles, the proud Hurricanes fought back from a try down to take the lead which they held for the majority of the match. With just sixty seconds remaining to secure their first success of the competition, sustained pressure from a much more disciplined Exiles saw Man of the Match Mike Cox-Hill crash over to give his side a one-point lead which they kept, much to the delight of their solid support base and coaches.

To rub salt into the Hurricanes' wounds, Cox-Hill is a former Hurricanes player, who has recently returned to Exiles colours whom he had previously played much of this rugby for.

For the victors alongside Cox-Hill, number eight Dave Clark's back to basics driving play was a feature, Captain Brett Williams was solid in the midfield while prop Chris Deacon's all round play was exemplary.
