Dubai: Lebanon beat the UAE 31-7 and 19-5 to record a cumulative 50-12 win in the Inaugural West Asia Rugby Sevens tournament at The Sevens Stadium on Saturday.
Lebanon had earlier beaten Shaheen 24-19, 35-5 and Saudi Arabia 43-7 in the pool phase while the UAE had first lost to Saudi Arabia 26-0 then won 12-5 before beating Shaheen 31-0 on Friday.
In Saturday’s semi-finals, Lebanon beat Shaheen 33-12 while the UAE beat Saudi Arabia 24-0. Saudi Arabia then beat Shaheen 17-10, 12-7 for third before the Lebanon-UAE deciders.
“As a board, we are delighted with the support of our neighbouring countries to successfully host this inaugural West Asia Rugby Sevens,” said UAE Rugby’s Qais Al Dhalai. “The tournament was played in great spirit and we are proud that as the host nation we had the depth and commitment to present two teams who proudly flew the UAE flag.”
