Dubai: The third edition of the Etihad Airways Junior Rugby Festival takes place at its new venue, Zayed Sports City, from October 19-30 with more than 2,200 schoolchildren aged five-18 involved.

Two key events will headline the bigger and better festival — The Etihad Harlequins Airways Rugby Schools and Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Harlequins Junior Rugby Tournament.

Through sponsorship of London-based rugby club, Harlequins, Etihad Airways has secured the participation of ex-Irish International and Harlequins Director of Rugby, Conor O'Shea, who will be able to scout the local youth rugby talent.

Also in attendance will be Harlequins' Second Row forward, James Percival, and members from the Harlequins Community Rugby coaching staff.

Spectator interest

With Zayed Sports City as host additional capacity is set to accommodate growing year-on-year spectatorship and support as well as participation.

Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways' CEO, said, "This year is set to become the biggest festival yet with children participating from more than nine countries. With support from our global sporting partners we remain committed to making a contribution to the development of local grass roots sports."
