Dubai: In less than a month the AGRFU Women's Sevens team will take on its biggest challenge to date when it travels to Hong Kong to compete in the Asian Championships on October 4-5, a tournament which will also double as the Asia IRB Rugby World Cup Sevens Qualifier.
The top three teams will take their place alongside the 16 top men's teams in the world at the World Cup Sevens in Dubai in early March 2009. This will be the first time women have competed for a World 7s crown.
Currently sponsored by Canterbury of New Zeal-and, Aggreko and the Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort the team is currently in intensive training for the upcoming qualifier in Hong Kong.
The first training camp was deemed a great success by team manager Richard Harris.
"The group was thoroughly put through its paces by technical adviser Ghaith Jalagel and AGRFU Rugby Services Officer Martin Southern.
"We also had the assistance of the IRB's Asia Rugby Development Manager Jared Gallagher. We are very happy how things are progressing and appreciative of the support."
