Dubai: Tickets for the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens go on sale on Wednesday.

The event, which includes round two of the annual nine-stage IRB Sevens World Series, is now in its 45th year and takes place at The Sevens stadium from December 4 to 6, with more than 100,000 people expected to attend.

There’s added excitement in this year’s series, with the top four teams in both the men’s and women’s final standings earning a berth at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Organisers are urging fans to buy tickets before the event to avoid queues — and save Dh100 in the process.

“Buying tickets before the event not only saves money, but speeds up the flow of people through the gates and minimises the queues that can sometimes build up at an event that attracts such huge numbers,” said tournament director Donal Kilalea.

“There’s something for everyone. The rugby village is a hive of activity, the fancy dress costumes are always entertaining and it’s a great event for families.

“We have a designated family entrance, 2,000 seats set aside in the Air BP family stand, improved creche facilities and entertainment for children throughout the day, making it a great day out for all.”

In a new addition, fans are invited to get into the spirit early this year with a launch party taking place at Meydan Beach, JBR, on Friday.

The free admission party will feature highlight reels, music and entertainment from the Aggreko cheerleaders. Partygoers are encouraged to come along in fancy dress, with the best outfits awarded a prize. Whoever buys a ticket at the party also gets a free drink.

Tickets can also be bought online at www.dubairugby7s.com or through ITP tickets, Virgin Tickets and Ticketmaster.
